Put your best foot forward

what is reflexology?

I utilize reflexology in my practice. The following article will explain what this is and how it can benefit you. I have worked with this modality for over 20 years. I have seen many wonderful results from reflexology alone. Jeana Natural Helping Hands

Some say that the best part of getting a pedicure is the foot massage.

Yet it pales in comparison to a reflexology session, where a reflexologist applies specific techniques to the feet, hands, face and ears to optimize your health and well-being.

Reflexology boasts an array of health benefits. “Reflexology is beneficial for so many conditions,” says Laura Norman, founder of Laura Norman Holistic Reflexology and a leading international expert on reflexology, practicing in Delray Beach and New York City.

“Due to the concentration of thousands of nerves in the feet, hands, face and ears, reflexology is an effective way to induce relaxation in one’s body, mind and spirit. When you’re relaxed, your body can find its natural balance. Circulation improves, the immune system gets stronger and aches and pains throughout the body melt away.”

Reflexologists also address concerns unique to women like PMS, fertility, pregnancy and menopause. “People tell me they sleep better since their mind is at peace,” says Norman. “They wake up restored, refreshed and full of energy, which sharpens their focus and helps them get more done in a day.”

What to Expect

During your visit, your reflexologist will ask about your health history and goals to understand how they can best support you. Fully dressed, you’ll remove your shoes and socks and lie on a table in a dimly lit room. “The ambiance is cozy and the reflexology is deeply soothing,” says Norman. “People often fall asleep while we work on them.”

Your reflexologist will apply moderate pressure to reflex areas on your feet, hands, face and ears, which correspond to different parts of your body. The frequency of your visits depends on what issues you’re addressing. “Results are cumulative. The more regularly you go, the better the impact,” says Norman. “Consistency brings optimum results.”

Reflexology is safe and effective. “If you have any serious medical conditions, check with your physician before your session,” says Norman. Reflexology is complementary to traditional medical care and also helpful for preventative care. Rather than treating specific illnesses, reflexologists supercharge your body’s natural healing abilities.

Bottom line, reflexology’s benefits are immense. “It helps my clients and myself relax so much,” says Norman. “You’ll feel wonderful all over and your whole being will thank you.”

thoughts on the trail

Appearances are not always what they seem.

You have probably seen the picture of the small iceberg that appears to be harmless. Yet, underneath is a much larger picture of the iceberg’s true size. This picture is used a lot in self help arenas.

I have another picture for you. I was walking along and kicked a small rock. It did not move. I decided to reach down and pull it up to move it. It did not budge.

I kicked and pushed and pulled for many minutes. Finally I took hold of it, pulled in several directions, and managed to get it out. It was a large rock, not a small rock as it appeared from the surface. And, to top that off, it had an L shape in in.

The hole was deep. I stepped back and just marveled at this for a few moments, thinking about how we kick and tear at issues, people or situations in our life; most often than not, they are rooted bigger than we expect them to be. If we stay at it and finally get the entire thing worked out, the hole is usually deep.

The relief is revealing, calming, closing, refreshing, anguishing, exasperating, penetrating, unyielding, struggling, and trying. We then work on mending the hole. I will leave this with you to ponder. I am pondering it, reading scriptures to understand it, and keeping it as a reminder of our human intricacies.

I am here to help you through these times of kicking, tearing and figuring things out.

OXYGEN

Oxygen. I have written how oxygen is key to keeping our immune system in order and our blood cells healthy. As ordinary as breathing may seem, the intake of oxygen sustains human life at its most fundamental level. This can be seen in the very first book of the Bible in Genesis 2:7: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life: and man became a living soul.” The body has an immediate, moment-by-moment need for oxygen; not water, not food … oxygen. Not surprisingly, God has supplied us with more than a few foods that promote oxygen-rich blood to nourish this vital life requirement. Oxygen supports the body’s health, along with foods that build oxygen-rich blood to include in your daily diet (deep greens, kelp, blueberries, lemons, etc.). I like the article above, but I will not say you have to be a vegetarian to attain this kind of health, because each person’s needs are very different; i advocate finding what that is in yourself, but that the diet needs to be mostly raw is definite truth and fact.

TAKING ACTION

oxygen kills viruses and bacteria and other foreign bodies. It helps to maintain healthy histamine levels. We must keep our oxygen in our bodies high. I take kelp powder and eat loads of raw foods.

hOW DOES IT WORK

Oxygen travels from the lungs to the bloodstream, with the bloodstream delivering oxygen to every cell of the body. In turn, each cell in the body uses oxygen to carry out a process known as cellular respiration. It’s through this process that cells generate energy. From there, the health benefits of oxygen-rich blood run the gamut, a few of which are:

  • Healthy digestion
  • Strong muscles
  • Mental clarity and ability to focus
  • Strong immune system
  • Strong heart
  • Healthy nervous system

WHAT DO I DO?

  1. When the weather allows, open your windows. Access to fresh air is essential for breathing more easily. However, remember it’s important to monitor your local air quality. If you live in an urban area and can’t open the place up because of smog, consider investing in an indoor air filtration system, or items which purify air at home naturally. But Choose electronic air purifiers carefully—many of them produce lung-irritating ozone.
  2. Grow green things. Introducing live plants into your home will increase available indoor oxygen. Ferns are a great option for extra oxygen production in the home. They are relatively easy to keep alive and don’t require a lot of sunshine.
  3. Exercise. Check with your doctor about the type and amount of exercise you should be doing each day. As your breathing rate and depth increases, your lungs absorb more oxygen, and that means you’ll feel better.
  4. Practice mindfulness. Begin a daily meditation or prayer routine that emphasizes deep breathing. Five to ten minutes per day of relaxed and focused breathing can improve your oxygen intake and reduce stress.
  5. Eat fresh, iron-rich foods. Your diet can, to some extent, influence your blood’s ability to absorb oxygen. Certain foods can help improve your oxygen levels in the blood. Focus on iron-rich foods such as meat, poultry, fish, legumes and green leafy vegetables. These dietary choices can correct an iron deficiency, which could increase your body’s ability to process oxygen and make you feel more energetic. Stock up on green vegetables like kale, broccoli and celery.

The next article goes a bit deeper in the core of our many issues. Enjoy!

How to Make Herbal Liniment by Jethro Kloss July 1, 2010/

in Remedies & Recipes /by Kimberly Gallagher

Rosemary Gladstar’s book the Family Herbal: A Guide to Living Life with Energy, Health, and Vitality

this recipe is one of our family favorites and we are very excited to have this opportunity to talk with her and share her herbal wisdom with all of you. She describes this remedy, Jethro Kloss’s Liniment, as “a very old, very strong recipe & useful for reducing inflammation of the muscles, cleansing wounds, and soothing insect bites.” This liniment was first concocted by a famous old herbalist named Dr. Jethro Kloss, hence its name. The herbs in this liniment by Jethro Kloss have antiseptic, warming, stimulating, and anti-inflammatory properties. They will also help increase circulation in areas where muscles are sore. We haven’t made a liniment in a while, and wanted to update our supply, since we definitely find that it is a great addition to our herbal family medicine chest. I used our liniment a lot for sore back muscles during my first pregnancy and found this one by Jethro Kloss to be very effective, and it is very simple to make. Herbal Liniment by Jethro Kloss What you’ll need… 1 ounce echinacea powder 1 ounce organically grown goldenseal powder (I do want to emphasize the organically grown part of this description. This plant is endangered in the wild from over-harvesting, so be sure and get it from a healthy, cultivated source. If you can ‘t find that, Rosemary suggests substituting chaparral or Oregon grape root) 1 ounce myrrh powder 1/4 ounce cayenne powder 1 pint rubbing alcohol Need organic herbs or supplies? Get them here! Ok, start by weighing out the powders and putting them in a pint jar. Pour the rubbing alcohol over the powders, leaving a good 2-inch margin above the herbs. Stir and put a lid on the jar. Place the mixture in a warm location and let it sit for 4 weeks. (2 weeks is also fine). Strain and rebottle.

Label the bottle clearly FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY (rubbing alcohol should not be taken internally). We’ve found that bottling our liniments in a spray bottle is very handy. It’s easy to spray it onto areas with sore muscles or onto wounds that need cleaning.

Enjoy this wonderful addition to your family medicine chest from Jethro Kloss. Praying the Promises

Hello all.

I have been seeing and feeling some great things this week, in all the mess. Yes, you can feel good things in the mess of life if you are looking.

I began my prayer journal again, and I began praying promises when I wake, through the day and before I go to sleep. I have exercised again every day, sometimes more than once a day. I am, because of the season, in the garden much now and outside a whole lot. I have had better sleep. I have had libido issues and other hormonal issues disappear. I have noticed my speech be better, my mind be clearer, and my energy be enhanced.

I had a saliva test recently for hormones and cortisol and other things. I was near bottomed out in cortisol when it should be up and low overall. Hormones were not all in balance but not too bad. I decided to give it all to the one who knows me and what my body is going through at this time (age 46, and I like to call it level 46). I am amazed. Below are the scriptures of two of my promise prayers. You take the scriptures, with the promises, and figure out what they are saying, then put them into your own situation or moment, and then read them back to God with it all together. It is powerful. I also add “tapping” and mental exercise to the sequence and it becomes even more powerful. (look those things up for yourself to find out more about getting to the core of your body and soul/spirit).

Isaiah 41:10 Do not fear (and this means do not let fear consume, fear is real and needs to be acknowledged as such), For I am with you. Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous Hand! Personal note: there is so much here in this; I would consume myself in front of the mirror looking at bumps or other flaws and letting fear consume me…no more! I would consume myself when I was outside looking for ticks….NO MORE! This is how this scripture works. No more junk anxiety. I am fine. Enjoy what is around you and consume in that. If something changes, I will know and God will take care of me to have what I need to take care of it, but NOT until then will I be anxious of that around me or on me or in me.

III John 2 I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

Take all this in!

Have a good day.

What is Wrong With This Article?

First, read this article – Apricot Seeds: Cancer Treatment or Danger to Health? Then come back, and we can discuss it.

I will go over some things wrong and see if you all picked up on the same junk.
Apricot seeds
One, the title of the article is a red flag right off. The place it is coming from is the first clue (pharma organization).

Two, the article goes through and states all the great benefits and proof of the benefits of these seeds nutritionally.  They know they are good for you to eat.

Three, the article states many companies and way to use the seeds for food, and none of those are shut down or given negative words…that is huge! They state that the seeds eaten raw are dangerous, but you can grind them into flour and eat them in other forms!! Catch that?! One has to be very careful reading these articles run by the pharmaceutical agencies.

Four, the article states that 50-60 raw seeds is the researched amount of amygdalin/cyanide toxicity leading to death, and toxicity in lower amounts.  It lists other foods and seeds with this amygdalin (converts to cyanide) element in them but does not give them negative credit. It goes into the dangers of cyanide and what it can do. The article never proves this.

Five, after the article praises all the benefits, it consistently uses phrases, “There is currently no evidence…”, and “There is no scientific evidence…”, which are bogus statements.  Evidence is and always has been there for all fruit seeds to have these cancer-fighting properties, but the FDA and other organizations cannot make money off of this stuff and therefore put things like this to the side, disregard it, and create articles like this to sway the common man from the truth. Proof of this is in stories like the one in the article, where a man found an important component, B17, and then the FDA decided not to allow it to be sold in the states (they know it works but cannot get the profit from it because those men do not sell out to them, etc., another subject all together).

Six, the end of the article gives the clue that they just ate their words of “no evidence”, when they state, “There may be promise with using chemicals from apricot kernels…”; this just proves that they do know the truth, and they do have all the evidence and are trying to find a way to make it theirs.

Watch out for this kind of junk. Be careful reading all things. Prove all things. This article made me laugh all the way through, how they contradicted and ate their words all the way through, and tried to justify everything with partial evidence (not all sides).

OH, BY THE WAY, it is helping immensely to eat these seeds and kernels from fruit to rid my Alpha-gal. It is staying part of my protocol. Ask about my protocol.

BE healthy, be true, Take action, re-write your story.

Massage Is So Much More Than a Rub

I am sharing an article I ran across. I have added some of my own personal stuff to it.  I know it all too well.

Stress

Stress and anxiety is universal, and it’s not always bad. Whenever you jump to catch a badly thrown ball, feel especially energetic before an important meeting, or hit the brakes in time to avoid a car accident, stress is doing its job. The adrenaline boosting your heart rate and the cortisol boosting your blood sugar, while diverting energy away from your digestive system and immune responses, are exactly what humans need to fight or flee attackers.

However, when there’s never any relief from stress, the sustained fight-or-flight response can cause problems. In fact, WebMD warns that constant stress actually becomes “distress — a negative stress reaction. Distress can lead to physical symptoms including headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, and problems sleeping. Research suggests that stress also can bring on or worsen certain symptoms or diseases.”

Following are some changes that can be brought about by stress:

BEHAVIOR CHANGES

    • Angry outbursts
    • Drug or alcohol abuse
    • Over- or under-eating
      • Social withdrawal
      • Tobacco use

MOOD CHANGES

    • Anxiety
    • Irritability or anger
    • Lack of motivation or focus
      • Restlessness
      • Sadness or depression

BODY CHANGES

    • Chest pain
    • Fatigue
    • Headache
    • Muscle tension or pain
    • Sex drive
      • Sleep
      • Stomach upset

Massage Therapy and Stress

Virtually every symptom listed by the American Psychological Association can benefit from massage. Research has shown that it can lower your heart rate and blood pressure, relax your muscles and increase the production of endorphins, your body’s natural “feel good” chemical. Serotonin and dopamine are also released through massage, and the result is a feeling of calm relaxation that makes chronic or habitual as well as acute or short-term stress much easier to overcome.  I personally know this to be true in every aspect with client results and with my own experiences.

In fact, stress relief is one of the first benefits that come to mind when thinking of massage therapy. It’s also a key component for anyone trying to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Clinical studies show that even a single 1 -hour session can significantly lower your heart rate, cortisol levels, and insulin levels – all of which explain why massage therapy and stress relief go hand-in-hand.

Benefits of Massage Therapy for Stress

Taking care of your body should be at the top of your priorities. By adding therapeutic massage to your routine now, you’ll feel, look and simply be healthier far into the future. In fact, stress relief alone can improve your vitality and state of mind. So what better way to prep for a long, happy life than a relaxing, therapeutic massage?

If you’re looking to add stress-relieving massage to your wellness program, a therapeutic massage from Natural Helping Hands can be a powerful ally when combating daily pressures and anxiety. In addition to stress relief, ongoing massage therapy can reduce pain, increase energy levels and improve overall physical and mental performance. I am an experienced, professional, medical massage therapist who customizes every massage (and stress relief) session to address your individual needs.
